A suburb that started in the 1970s
Allen was a town of a few hundred people when it incorporated in 1953, and still had just 1,940 residents in 1970. It reached 8,314 in 1980, 18,309 in 1990, 43,554 in 2000 and 84,246 in 2010. Nearly all of its housing is therefore from the last fifty years, with the biggest share from the 1990s and 2000s, by our reading of the census.
Homes from that era may sit on post-tensioned slabs. Before anyone cores or drills the slab, read what to know about slab repairs.
What Allen publishes
Allen's Contractor Registration Application lists "Foundation" among the contractor types that register with the city. We didn't find a published Allen checklist for foundation repair permits or an engineer requirement, so ask the city before work starts.
