The fastest-growing city in the country
Princeton had 6,807 residents in 2010 and 17,027 in 2020. Wikipedia reports that, according to the Census Bureau, its population surged by 30% in a single year, making it the fastest-growing city or town in the country. The July 2025 estimate is more than two and a half times the 2020 count. Most homes in Princeton are very new, by our reading of those numbers.
That has two consequences. Many owners will still have a builder's warranty, so check it first. And Princeton has the lowest median home value of the five cities we cover, so a five-figure pier repair is a bigger share of a home's value here: $15,000 is about 4.5% of $331,000, by our arithmetic. An independent engineer's evaluation is worth having before a large repair.
What Princeton publishes
The city's Development Services FAQ, answering "What types of construction require a building permit?", lists "Foundation repair." The same FAQ lists the contractor types that must register, and foundation contractors aren't among them. We found no published engineer requirement.
